Candidates
You are more than just a test score. Your ability to be successful at LSU and contribute to its elite community of scholars is indicated by several factors. Every application is reviewed comprehensively, looking at your academic performance in high school and who you are as a student, inside and outside of the classroom.
Requirements
- Admissions Requirements
- Minimum grade-point average of 2.50, cumulative
- Passing scores on all parts of the Praxis I Series OR
- Minimum ACT composite score of 22 OR
- Minimum SAT composite score of 1100
- Retention Requirements
- Minimum grade-point average of 2.50, cumulative
- Degree Requirements:
- Satisfactory completion of an approved program of study as determined by all of the following: faculty of the college in which the major/concentration resides, the University, the LSU P-12 Education Advisory Council, and the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education
- Minimum GPA of 2.50 on all work completed, cumulative
- Passing scores on all required parts of the Praxis II Series
- Grade of “C” or higher in course work as specified by the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education
Support for Candidates
Through this program, you will be paired with a teaching mentor, usually in the parish you’re from or where you’d like to work. As a student, it’s invaluable to have a mentor teacher show you the best practices for establishing strong routines, preventing and resolving conflict, and other interpersonal situations that must exist before learning may even begin.

- Usually, a master’s program in education takes an additional two to three years after graduation. However, with LSU’s Master of Art in Teaching, you can receive an advanced degree in one additional year. This cost-effective program gives you more job opportunities and the ability to move up to administration after teaching for a few years.
