November Educator Spotlight: Timara Thompson

This month, we’re thrilled to spotlight Ms. Timara Thompson, a passionate 5th grade math teacher at GEO Prep Mid-City! Known for her ability to connect with every student who walks through her door, Ms. Thompson brings heart, consistency, and a whole lot of joy to her classroom. Whether she’s starting her day with gospel music or reaching for her go-to snack (Dr. Pepper and a Kit Kat!), she stays grounded in her purpose: helping her students grow in confidence, curiosity, and love for learning.

My name is Ms. Timara Thompson. I have been teaching 5th grade Math at GEO Prep Mid-City for four years.

Quick + Fun

My teacher superpower is the ability to connect with all students. I believe part of a strong foundation of teaching and learning is to be able to have a great relationship with your students. My go-to planning period snack is a Dr. Pepper and a honey bun or kit kat. Any gospel song usually sets the tone for my day. I have to start my morning off with praise and worship. My favorite thing to do on the weekend is to relax and enjoy the calmness. My favorite lunch spot near the school is Raising Cane’s.

Why Teaching

Teaching is such a big part of my life. I’ve been able to grow students since I’ve been working for GEO Prep Mid City. Teaching gives me the opportunity to make a difference every single day. My big hope for my students this year is for them to continue to grow and have the willingness to learn. Watching students grow, gain confidence, and discover their potential is one of the most rewarding experiences imaginable. Teaching allows me to share knowledge, inspire curiosity, and help young minds see the power of learning. Every lesson, conversation, and breakthrough moment reminds me why I chose this path. I’m reminded every day of my “Why” because of the amazing things they do and accomplish.
